In the course of many plastic surgery procedures, several different techniques may be used, including incisions, excisions, laser surgery, liposuction, electrosurgery, and many others.
Incisions are one of the most commonly used plastic surgery techniques. Most facelifts require at least minor incisions. The Lifestyle Lift only requires small incisions behind the ears, making them well concealed and unobtrusive. While incisions are basically controlled cuts in the skin, excisions refer to cuts made to remove skin or, in the case of some medically necessary plastic surgery procedures, growths.
Laser surgery techniques are most commonly associated with specific procedures. Laser acne removal, laser tattoo removal, and laser hair removal are all plastic surgery procedures that make use of laser surgery techniques.
Liposuction generally refers to a set of techniques that are designed to remove body fat from specific areas of the body. There are a number of specific liposuction techniques, though all of them seek the same outcome. Most physicians will not remove more than 10 pounds of body fat from any one liposuction procedure. Liposuction is used to target a specific area, such as the stomach, thighs, arms, or other specific areas of the body.
A popular cosmetic surgery procedure for skin improvements is dermabrasion. This technique removes the epidermis of the skin, which can remove scars, sports, and damaged skin. This technique essentially sands down the skin, which can take some time to fully heal. Once healed, though, there is a new layer of epidermis that is largely clear of blemishes, scars, spots, and other signs of damage.
The electrosurgery technique applies high levels of electric current into tissue in order to remove warts, skin tags, and skin growths. Like many other cosmetic surgery techniques, there are several ways to apply the procedure in order to get the best results for specific situations.
